Figuring out what to do today
Well, I have slowly been getting back into playing basketball. I had a nasty ankle sprain back in April (torn ligament) and I have waited to let it heal as much as possible. It seems to be holding up really well, so I have been testing it. I also thought that I should invest in a new pair of shoes. The ones that I have been playing in and the ones that I was wearing when the injury occurred, were really meant for running. They don’t have much ankle support like real basketball shoes have and so it was a pretty good purchase. I went to Academy here in San Antonio, Texas expecting to pay around 100 dollars easy, but I was surprised to find a decent pair for around 50 dollars. Anyway, hopefully these will protect my ankles from any future injuries. As far as my game is concerned at this point, I don’t think Academy sells any so I will have to continue to improve. At least I am getting a pretty good exercise though doing what I enjoy. Also, before I end this seemingly endless rant, I did run into Ice Man George Gervin the other day while shooting hoops at the gym. He was accompanied by a high school player or maybe a local college player. I was shooting layups when they entered the gym and was surprised when he walked by and said that anyone could make layups. Then he said mostly everyone. I didn’t really know what to say back since he is known for a layup here and there back in his playing days. Lucky kid to have such a great player teach him some pointers in basketball.
My employer is starting a bowling league and I decided to join a team along with my wife. It hopefully gives us something to look forward to during the week. We don’t get to go out too often, so this will be a fresh breath of air. We are not the best bowlers, but we do know how to play. Throw the ball toward the white pins. It isn’t difficult. Now we just need to go out and buy some quality bowler’s shoes. It looks like we are diving head-first into married life. Hold on to your hats people.
Well I had the opportunity to meet an aunt of mine that I have not met in probably about 20 years. She lives in Florida and has come down to San Antonio to be a part of my grandparents’ 50th anniversary party. It was really good to catch up with her. Also, I had another aunt come down also from Florida, but I have not seen her in about 2 years. It is a lot to be able to catch up with someone after about 20 years, but I will have some more chanches to do that this weekend hopefully.
Well the weirdest thing happened to me today. I found out that I am colorblind. My parents were telling me that my twin brother found out he was colorblind when he took a test in the Air Force. I have been messing around with some online tests and I have confirmed that I am colorblind. It is weird because I never knew that I was colorblind all my life. I am only 26 years old, but it is still kind of amazing that I barely found out something new about myself. I am not really saddened about it, because I can see colors just fine. I just can’t see symbols when you embed them in certain combinations of colors, like reds and greens. Oh well, maybe I can apply for disability and get some kind of compensation for it.
As I have just been married to my beautiful wife, Jennifer, my grandparents are celebrating thier 50th anniversary. It is really quite wonderful really as many things can happen to a couple within 50 years to prevent this golden occasion. They have surely been through a lot in that time and yet here they are still going strong. They have always been there for us grandchildren and we are very grateful to have them as grandparents and as loving role models. They have set the bar and I can only hope that one day I too can be in their shoes with Jennifer 50 years from now.
R.I.P. Larry you were a good friend who always had a smile. We’ll miss you.
I recently got married and I really never wore rings or any other type of jewerly. My biggest gripe about rings was that they usually left my fingers irritated. When we were shopping for our rings, I really didn’t care too much about the style as I did on the smoothness of the ring on the inside. I went with a “comfort” band and after about a week and a half of wearing it, I noticed that I am constantly twisting it or sliding it on and off my finger. I also noticed that the skin where the ring sits around my ring finger is smoothed out compared to the surrounding skin. My question is what have any of you done to make getting used to wearing rings a little more comfortable? I am really more interested in possible hand creams or skin conditioners that I can invest in.
